Kumho Ecsta XS Tire Review

Kumho Ecsta XS tires are designed for SCCA racing and they are considered to be a high uniform type of tire. They deliver a dry grip that cannot be matched along with very quick steering response. The unique footprint of this tire is designed to provide consistent performance at very high speeds.

Accelerating through corners without losing grip is easy with the low void asymmetric tread pattern. The Ecsta XS also sports circumferential grooving to also assist with the grip around corners along with ultra-fine carbon black compounding to give you maximum traction.

During high lateral loads you will be able to count on the ultra-wide tread contact and the highly rounded shoulders, which give you a footprint shape you can trust. The optimum run temperature of 205 degrees Fahrenheit and Y speed rating gives you one of the top tires for racing.

The tread compound is highly sophisticated and it able to sustain tractions and a larger rate of temperatures. However, it will be very sensitive to the first heat cycle and the compound will stretch as it heats up. These tires can be heat cycled by a local tire shop for a very reasonable price, if necessary.

Inside the tread you'll find twin high tensile steel belts that are nylon wrapped for added strength and stability at higher speeds, while also promoting more even tire wear. Tuned sidewalls help reduce lateral deflection. One quick note: These tires are not made to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, on ice, or in the snow.

Overall, the Kumho Ecsta XS does exactly what it is designed to do... provide some of the best high performance grip and handling, as well as a very good ride, of any tire in this price range. To get any more out of a street/track tire you will be looking at spending 2-3 times the amount you'll spend on the Ecsta XS. Very good value for the money.

The Kumho Ecsta XS tires range in price from around $99 all the way up to $379, depending on the size you need. The smaller sizes will be much less than the most expensive 345/30R19 105W.

The Kumho Ecsta XS tires are not covered by a treadlife warranty due to the type of use they are designed for. However, they are covered by a 1 year or first 2/32 inch of wear uniformity warranty. They are also covered by a workmanship and materials warranty for 6 years and protected by a free replacement for the first 2/32" of wear.
