Can Your Driving Habits Affect The Life Of Your Tires?
For some drivers this will seem obvious, but for many others they don't know just how much their driving habits
will truly affect the life of their tires. It doesn't matter how expensive the tires are that you're running on
your car or truck either. So what are some of the reasons why some people can get 5 years out of a set of tires,
while others may only get one year?
1. Speeding - The faster you drive, the hotter your tires become. It's that heat buildup that creates excessive
tire wear and reduces the durability as well.
2. High speed acceleration, cornering and braking - Taking corners on nearly two wheels is a sure way to go
through a set of tires in a hurry. The same can be said for spinning your tires every time when the light turns
green. And skidding to a stop is never going to improve tire wear either.
3. Obstacles - Here's one you might not realize, but driving over/scraping curbs or into pot-holes is another
way to quickly go through a set of passenger tires. I had a friend once who would always scrape up against the
curbs on the street where she lived. It began wearing through the tire to the point that one day she did it and the
tire just blew out.
4. Inflation - Not keeping your tires properly inflated can wear them out quick.
So use these tips to take it a little easier behind the wheel and you'll find yourself saving some money by not having to replace your tires so often.
