Can I Mount My New Tires And Wheels Myself?
One area that you may be tempted to save a few extra dollars in is mounting your own wheels and tires. I know it
can be tempting because it looks pretty easy. But is this something you should really do?
The best advice we can give is to never do this yourself unless you know what you are doing... and you have the
right equipment. We've come across an untold number of stories where people have thought it was no big deal to do
their own wheel mounting, only to have disastrous results. In some cases it can even be deadly. Simply put, no
wheel and tire is worth your life.
Your best bet is to let the professionals at the tire shop do the job. In most cases we are only talking about
$5-$10 a wheel and tire for mounting. That is hardly worth saving and risking a serious injury or worse. Beyond
that you take a big chance of damaging those new wheels or tires as well. Then you are looking at either spending
more money on new equipment or mounting a damaged wheel that you get to look at every time you get in your
vehicle.
Sometimes the best thing to do is to spend a few dollars and let someone else do the job for you. Mounting
wheels and tires is one of those jobs.
