Buying The New Tires Your Vehicle Needs

Searching for new tires for your car, truck or SUV can oftentimes seem like a difficult challenge. I mean, there are literally hundreds of different tires by many different manufacturers to choose from. It's easy to get confused, but one tip that will greatly reduce the confusion is to shop for the tires your vehicle actually needs.

Instead of getting caught up in the hype that advertisers feed you in magazine ads and on TV, take a moment to really think about driving habits. Sure, spending $1000 on those new low profile tires from Toyo is going to make your ride look fine, but do you really need them?

What I mean is that tires rated for driving at speeds over 150 mph are great for race cars who run at the track, but if you are only using your vehicle for daily commuting to work, or even on the highway, are you really going to be driving at speeds like that? If so, then you must be spending a fortune on insurance and court costs for all the tickets alone.

Why not think things over a bit and get a nice set of touring or all season tires for your vehicle instead? Not only will you save some serious money in the process, but you will also have tires that will provide you with a much smoother ride, yet still have good handling and performance characteristics.

It goes without saying that if you are driving an expensive sports car, then this advice does not pertain to your situation. You will want to put on a new set of high performance tires. But this applies to only a small percentage of drivers out on the road. Most of us do not fit into that category.

Consider The Weather

One other factor you should consider when buying new tires is the weather you drive in. It makes no sense to put on a set of low profile tires if you live in the north and drive in the snow for 5 months out of the year. Unless you are planning on changing your tires out every year with snow tires, then you are not going to enjoy being pulled out of the ditch because your low profile tires were like ice skates on the road.

Don't Forget The Warranty

Finally, be sure to consider the warranty that comes with the tire. How many miles is the tread wear warranty? What is covered? What is the replacement policy?

Look for tread wear warranties of 60,000 miles and up. They give you maximum protection for years to come. Your better tires all come with good warranties.

These simple tips alone can help you buy the right tires that you need for your vehicle. In the process you might even save yourself some good money to use on other things.
